This is some kind of fossil fern. And in case you didn't know...that's Abraham Lincoln on the penny.

Another seed fern fossil. I have a whole bunch of these.

I like this one.

I think they call this a Calamites. Whatever it's called...it's a pretty cool fossil. I have a bunch of these as well.

Obviously, this is fossilized tree bark. Or at least some kind of wood. It was found in the same fossil bed as the seed ferns and Calamites. This piece actually broke in half and I managed to fit it back together for this pic.

I really love this one. I found this not far from my house in a pile of gravel. The rock is some kind of chert I believe, and the part you can't see in the pic shows a lot of river wear. Where ever the county road crew got this kind of gravel for our road would be an interesting place to hunt fossils, don't you think. I wish I could find out what this is exactly. Somedays I think it is a shell. Other days I convince myself it's a leaf. I truly have no idea.

This little one is pretty cool. It is actually encased in a rock that I darn near broke my back picking up and carrying to my truck. The entire rock is about 3 feet in diameter and weighs over 100 lbs I would guess. I believe it is called Artisia Horizontalis but I could be wrong. There are several like this one encased in the big ol' rock along with about 50 other bits and pieces of stems and what not from some other kind of tree.
